Woman Faces Felony DWI Charges After Critically Injuring Internet Worker
In May of 2025, a woman in Cary faced felony DWI charges after hitting an internet worker while allegedly intoxicated. The victim was working on the side of the road when the woman approached and struck him while driving an SUV, causing critical injuries. She allegedly gave a BAC reading of 0.18 when officers administered a breath test. In addition to felony DWI charges, she faces a number of traffic offenses.

Also in May, a man faced felony DWI charges after trying to pass in a no-pass zone on N.C. 210. He subsequently caused a high-speed collision that claimed the life of one victim. This victim was riding as a passenger in the defendant’s vehicle, and he died when the vehicle struck a tree. In addition to his DWI charges, the defendant also faces charges of speeding, reckless driving, felony death by vehicle, and other traffic infractions.
High School Teacher Allegedly Causes Fatal DWI Crash
May also saw a fatal crash that claimed the life of a father of four. This crash occurred in Greensboro, and it was allegedly caused by a 25-year-old high school science teacher. The crash also injured the man’s fiancée, causing her to be hospitalized. The science teacher now faces numerous charges, including DWI.
Woman Faces Several Charges After Allegedly Crashing into Store While Drunk
Another alleged DWI crash in May came when a woman drove her SUV into the front entrance of a Piggly Wiggly location in Kinston. The crash completely destroyed the doors, and the woman fled the scene after the collision. When police tracked down her vehicle after a two-mile chase, they found a 10-month-old child sitting inside without proper restraints. As a result of this incident, the mother faces several charges, including hit-and-run, child abuse, and DWI.
Woman Sentenced to Years in Prison After Fatal DWI
In May, a 31-year-old woman was sentenced to up to eight years in prison for aggravated felony death by vehicle, DWI, and driving without a license. She had caused a crash that claimed the life of a 19-year-old motorcyclist on Highway 70, and she later blew a BAC of 0.16. With prior DWI convictions on her record, this severe penalty was to be expected.
