North Carolina Police Officer Caught Selling Cocaine With Son

Coastal South Law

In North Carolina, police officers often catch alleged drug dealers and ensure justice. But what happens when our police officers are also selling hard drugs like cocaine? This is what many in North Carolina are wondering after a police lieutenant was accused of helping his son sell cocaine. He is now facing years in prison for drug trafficking crimes in North Carolina. What does this story tell us about the reliability of the justice system?

Police Lieutenant Let His Son Use His Home as a Drug Den

In January 2025, it was reported that a former police lieutenant in North Carolina had been sentenced to prison for his role in a drug operation alongside his son. The individual in question was a 13-year law enforcement veteran, but he was forced to resign after police found over 70 grams of cocaine and 15 grams of crack cocaine. During a search back in 2022, police also found three shotguns and a large quantity of meth.

The police investigation began when investigators began tailing the lieutenant’s son. They quickly deduced that he was selling drugs, and they set up a number of “controlled buys” to confirm their suspicions. They also noticed that the suspect always visited his father’s house immediately after the drug transactions. Eventually, it became clear that the father was letting his son use his home for drug-related activities.

They subsequently looked closer at the father’s activities, discovering that he was using police databases to learn details about the drug investigations. The father relayed this information to his son, particularly details about active warrants against him. The FBI raided the police officer’s home in 2022 and discovered the illicit drugs and weapons. The son received a sentence of 10 years, while the father received a four-year sentence.

This Story is All Too Familiar

Unfortunately, police corruption seems to be getting increasingly common across the country. With so much corruption, it is difficult to rely on the trustworthiness of police officers – particularly those who testify about drug evidence. Also in January of 2025, it was reported that a group of law enforcement officers in the Sunshine State stole $420,000 in drugs they collected from traffic stops. The pair then sold the drugs in secret and replaced the real evidence with counterfeits. These officers also stole cash during traffic stops.

Can a Defense Attorney in North Carolina Help Me Fight Cocaine Charges?

Everyone deserves access to an experienced defense attorney in North Carolina – even if you’re a police officer. This story shows that the justice system is at least functional enough to detect corruption within the ranks of our law enforcement agencies. However, it is not encouraging for people who depend on the police to ensure justice. Regardless of your situation, you may be able to fight your charges by contacting Coastal South Law today.
